At KatKin, we take food safety very seriously. We do not compromise on this, and we work with independent labs to test each batch daily. We also make the outcomes of these tests available to our customers. You can find the results for any batch by using the search function below.

At KatKin, our management and kitchen teams are responsible for building and maintaining a strong food safety culture, in keeping with our values. THE COOKING STEP SAFEGUARDS AGAINST HARMFUL BACTERIA

All of our recipes are made with fresh, high-quality meats. They are gently cooked and pasteurised to kill harmful bacteria, then packaged and frozen for preservation.

INDEPENDENT LABORATORIES CARRY OUT FOOD SAFETY TESTS…

We work with three UK-based laboratories to test the safety of our food. These laboratories are both fully independent of KatKin and UKAS accredited. This means they are approved by a government-appointed body to provide services including certification and testing.

IN LINE WITH BOTH PET AND HUMAN FOOD PRODUCTION GUIDELINES

Our fresh food is completely new and different to traditional wet and dry cat foods. But existing pet food safety regulations are only geared towards those categories. So in addition to following the necessary pet food safety testing regulations, we also test our food as if it was for human consumption, too. This means we can guarantee the food safety of our fresh recipes for cats.

We always strive to go beyond industry standards

We test every single day. And we test every batch. The frequency of our food safety testing is in excess of industry and regulatory standards. Under current regulations, pet food manufacturers can test as little as monthly for poultry recipes, and quarterly for other protein recipes. Some of the tests we run have both targets and maximum acceptable limits. We determine these targets and limits by looking at relevant industry regulations and guidelines for both pet food and human food production. In all cases, our targets and limits are either lower than or equal to these regulations and guidelines. And we never send out food that exceeds the maximum acceptable limits.

How we test

We test for indicator microorganisms like lactic acid bacteria. These can indicate spoilage and hygiene concerns. We also test for pathogens to ensure no harmful bacteria is present.
